We keep telling you that you must impose your style, make a strong proposal, bring your singularity, your personality, etc., etc., etc…

And yet, many of you have often noticed that the casting director tends to ask you for something else in the following takes, perhaps far from your proposal and/or very close to a certain stereotype that you had tried to avoid.

And that’s the trick in this whole story. Checking that you are capable of responding to different directions, of integrating a given indication in the stage directions… All of this is the role of the casting director. In fact, no matter what your proposal is, he or she might well be tempted to ask you for the opposite of your proposal.

When working on an audition for a casting, always keep in mind that you may be asked for a more classic proposal, or on the contrary, asked to push your own limits. Prepare yourself for these eventualities from the outset. That way, you’ll have in your bag, without even thinking about it, the answer to all the possible demands of the casting director.
